If you sell software, you know the problem: the product is brilliant, but it’s hard to explain in a paragraph. Screenshots don’t show the flow. Feature lists blur together. And most visitors will give a landing page about eight seconds before they leave.
A good product video fixes that. In about a minute, a viewer sees the problem, sees your software solving it, and understands why they should sign up. That’s why SaaS and app videos are one of the newer services we offer at WeDoVids — and we know the territory first-hand, because we build software too.
Here are two examples of what we mean.
Introducing FrameCourier
FrameCourier is our own product, built after we got tired of juggling Dropbox links, review tools, and gallery subscriptions to deliver work to clients. It’s a client delivery and review platform for photographers and video studios: galleries, proofing, timestamped video comments, and branded client portals, with no per-seat fees. (Read why we built it.)
That’s a lot of product to fit into a short video. The job of this one is to make a feature-rich platform feel simple, so a studio owner sees in under a minute how it would change the way they deliver work.
keepFOCUS: a focus timer, explained fast
keepFOCUS is a customizable Pomodoro-style timer with a built-in to-do list, stats, achievements, and several timer styles. Different audience, different goal. The people who download an app like this are students, writers, and developers who want to know right away what it feels like to use.
For an app like this, the video shows the product in action, in a few seconds, in a way a store listing or a block of text can’t.
What a SaaS video does for you
- Explains the product faster. Show the workflow instead of describing it.
- Lifts landing page conversion. Visitors who watch understand the offer, and the ones who sign up are better informed.
- Works everywhere. The same video goes on your homepage, app store page, YouTube, LinkedIn, email campaigns, sales decks, and onboarding.
- Cuts down on support and sales questions. If the video answers the “what does it do?” question, your team doesn’t have to.
- Gives a young product credibility. A polished video makes a new product look established.
How we make it
It’s the same process we use for every video, applied to software:
- Set objectives. What should a viewer do after watching: sign up, start a trial, book a demo?
- Research your audience and decide the core message. One clear sentence about who the product is for and why it matters.
- Script and storyboard. Short, clear, benefit-led, and you see it before we shoot or animate anything.
- Film, animate, and edit. We bring the story and your product to life, with captions so it works with the sound off.
- Deliver and measure. Versions for your site, YouTube, and social, judged against the goals we set at the start.
You don’t need to know what a good SaaS video looks like. That’s our job.
